Before tortoises had shells, three wise turtles decide they need protection from the elements. This story tells how the shell becomes home to so many tortoises.

Imagine finding turtle eggs in your sandbox! When a mother diamondback terrapin lays eggs in a young girlﾒs sandbox, the girl becomes a ﾓturtle-sitterﾔ to help the babies safely hatch. She raises the teeny hatchlings until they become big enough to fend for themselves in the wild. Then, with the help of experts, she releases them. Along the way, she learns about these unique animals and that she has made an important contribution to their survival.

There is a party tonight so the animals take time to clean up for good hygiene. We don't want anyone to get sick!

Clarice Bean is having a hard time coming up with an idea for her project on the environment. To make matters worse, she is paired up with her tag-along neighbor, Robert Granger. Her situation looks hopeless until her brother becomes an ecowarrior in an effort to free the tree from being cut down in their neighborhood. Robert and Clarice become ecowarriors themselves, saving the tree and their project.

A young boy dreams and wishes to win the Nobel Peace Prize. He outlines the many things that he "will do" when he is older in order to win the prize and make the world a better place. He then realizes that he " better get started". Many recipients and dates of the Nobel Peace Prize and are listed in the Author's Note.

Much to her mother's dismay, Dixie Lee brings home an alligator, a snake, and an owl to be pets and to protect her family from spooky creatures. The creatures prove themselves by scaring away all the spooky creatures, and Dixie Lee is allowed to keep her pets.
